Problem authoring mpeg-1 in Quicktime Pro

I found that a mpeg 1 file from a friend cannot be authored in Quicktime Pro ( cut / paste) . Another file in mpeg 4, with video and audio tracks split, could be authored. How can I covert the mpeg 1 file to make it authorable?

The mpeg 4 converted to dvd in ffmpegx but the same attempt with the mpeg 1 just left me with an mpeg 2 (ffmpeg) and seprate audio file.

Advice welcome.

you can find "missing mpeg tools" on versiontracker.com or macupdate.com ... Problem is that QT Pro doesn't know how to handle muxed MPEG-1 files.

I resolved it by converting the files to mpeg 4 with Mpeg Streamclip. I am going to download missing mpeg tools and give that a try.

Many thanks
