problem with defaults command

I have tried a few of the defaults commands and none of them are taking effect what am i doing wrong.

It would help if you said what you were trying to do. Exactly what commands did you give defaults?

If it was something to do with the Finder, most of those changes need you to logout then back in (or force quit the Finder) before they'll become available. Same for the Dock.
 
If you 're runnin' 10.1 it's probably.
I'm using 5G40 and some defaults doesn't work like showforeground or show all files.
why don't you try ThinkerTool??
 
Yes, but trying tinkerTool you can know if you 're making errors in the default command or is an os x problem!
