Problem with Lock Screen - Any help?

Dear All,

Sometime ago I ask a question about 'locking' the screen when I move away from my computer. Luckly, someone replied a solution to my problem and it works great.

My problem now is that I have notice over the last week, is when I return to my computer and move the mouse or press a key to 're-log' in, the dialog box to enter the password takes a very very long time to appear. In fact sometimes it takes upto a minute or more to appear and I was wondering if anyone has this problem and more importantly, does anyone have a solution? Once or twice I have done a hardware restart due to the fact that I was waiting for 5 minutes.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Apple PowerBook G4 400MHz
MacOS X 10.1.3
1024MB RAM
20GB HD

Dear All,

The screen saver that I am using is a Freeware one which is available to download from the Apple MacOS X website.

I should try the default installed screensavers to see if this makes a difference.

Any suggestions etc will be gratefully received.
Will report back soon on the progress.
 
Could it be that you are using a screen saver that uses a lot of cpu, so with your 400, it takes a while for it to recover from it before giving you the login prompt?

First, I don't think that it's the speed of the maachine. In the past it was more or less instant.

As I said earlier, I was going to try a Apple default screen saver. This did not rectify the situation. It still took 30 for the dialog box to appear!

Anyway, in the last few days, it has got better. One reason being could be that I have deleted the MayaPLE application and all the files that it installs in the System Folder, well, the Library Folder. Any it does install alot. I have had a general spring clean, freeing up half a gig, old preferences, old programs that I don't use. It seems to have worked. Respond time is now 5 seconds which is a dramatic improvement.
 
When I loose network connectivity to the Internet, my screen saver takes a year and 2 days to come back to a prompt for me to login.

Well, okay, about 3 minutes... but still, its a pain. I also noticed that when I had more MEMORY, the screen saver prompted faster than its normal speed (w/ network connectivity).
