Problem with Mac OSX Panther

Hello everyone

Since yesterday, I am having a problem with my iMac G5, it won't load the Graphic User Interface (GUI) and instead it loads up a DOS-like interface, does anyone know what I did wrong? I had it on the screensaver for an hour and then I came back and it was in this interface, I tried rebooting, but that didn't work either. maybe there is a command in that interface to switch back to the GUI.

it says in the Interface:

Welcome to Darwin!
localhost:user$

Sounds like it's going into it's UNIX side. Have you tried booting from the discs to run a disk repair from the Disk Utility? Try that and see if it fixes the issue.

Thank you very much, I don't know that much about Mac OSX itself, I only work with it and that's it, so I didn't know what was going on, but I'll try that, and hope it will work, Thanks :) but still one question, would that have some of my data lost?

No problem. To boot from the discs, insert the disc in the Mac and restart. After you hear the Macintosh startup chime, hold down the C key until it boots from the CD. You'll be able to tell that it booted from the disc from the sounds the optical drive makes and eventually you'll see the Welcome screen. It's going to act like you're going to do an installation but what you're going to do is head up to the menu and select File (I believe) and you should see the option for Disk Utility.
