Problem with Option boot menu and PS/2 to USB adapter

Hi,

I am having a problem with my Mac mini and a PS/2 to USB adapter. When I boot the Mac with the Option key pressed, the boot menu appears. However, the mouse pointer will only move up and down, and not sideways, so I cannot select anything. The adapter I'm using is the Sabrent SBT-PS2U, which Sabrent claims is compatible with "Mac OS 8.6 and higher." Also, the Command-Option-O-F combo does not work at all. The "C" key to boot from the optical drive does work.

I am running Mac OS X 10.4.3 on a Late 2005 Mac mini(1.33GHz, 80GB, 512 RAM, 32MB graphics.)

My mouse is made by Mitsumi and my keyboard is a CompUSA brand manufactured by FMI.

The only thing I can think of is that Macintosh-specific keys (like Control and Option) are reversed on a Windows-style keyboard. Your "control" key on the keyboard is actually the "Apple" key, and the "Alt" key on the keyboard is actually your "Control" key.

So, if I remember correctly, if you want to do the "hold option at startup", you would actually hold the Control key at startup.

Or something like that -- I can't remember exactly, but I do know that Control and Alt on a Windows keyboard are reversed from what they'd be on a Mac keyboard.

I use the Belkin adapter and don't have such issues.
