Problem with screen resolutions

I have a PowerMac g3 (beige), with the onboard ati mach64. when i first got the computer it had os9 on it and the screen resolution could go all the way up to 1280x1024. since then i have had to reset the open firmware to get linux to install properly. but now when i install os9 od os10 on it, the only resolution i can use is 640x480. i have tried different monitors. and i have no idea why no other settings are there. my only thoughts are that their may have been some settings inside the open firmware that were needed to get this higher resolutions.....any help is appreciated
 
Not sure about that, my system detects my monitors and adjusts settings and everything to each as I selected. There has to be prefs somewhere that allows for this.
 
Have you tried going back to the open firmware and set it back to what it was?
