problem with window media player

I have e-mac running mac os x 10.4.8 . Somehow i have managed to corrupt windows media player. My attempt to delete from the trash can led to a message regarding one of the (although it will apply to all of them) .htm files. I am sure the message I get is that it is locked. When I try "rm" in unix it tells me I do not have the necessary permission (rwxrwxrwx). My knowledge of unix is rather week. How can I delete it all and hopfully reinstall it again.
Will i need to log on as root, if so how?

say cheers sudo rm -R ~/.trash worked ok only it prompted me to overide every file! still seemed to work fine so thank a lot

'... sudo rm -R ~/.trash worked ok only it prompted me to overide every file!' - 'sudo rm -rf ~/.trash' would not have (prompted you to overide every file).

Thanks for everything, but having re-downloaded windows media player, it seems to just sit on my toolbar, if I select Force Quit it tell me the application is not responding.

'... it seems to just sit on my toolbar ...' - I presume you are referring to the 'Dock' (when stating 'toolbar'). On the Mac, a 'toolbar' may reside in a 'Finder' window or within an applications' window or respective floating window.

'... if i launch wmp in another account it works.' - suggests a possible corrupted '~/Library/Windows Media Player Prefs' file.

Ok last update here, removed Windows Media Player Prefs and Windows Media Favourites from my library and everything works fine. The only downside is it reinforces how little I know about stuff.
