Greetings from New Zealand !

Hope lm posting in the right place.

recently went to 10.4.6 using software update. Now seem to be having odd problems.

Various apps wont start-"unexpectedly quit" message , disc images won't mount, l get; "Could not complete last command because of a Mac OS error. Result code = -1" or l get; "The disk image failed to mount, reason: Too many processes"
Things in general are sluggish, like slight delay before menus open. Funny thing is, l l restart, the problems dissapear for a time.

My trusy Mac seems a little sick, l will do a archive-install at some point, but if any of these symptoms sound familiar, l would appreciate any advice, hints or tips.

Kind regards,

DJO

After updating did you download and install anything? It's a common error for a newbie to download something like Microsoft Messenger and to run it from its "virtual disc" instead of dragging a copy to the Applications folder. If you have a "virtual disc" of any sort on your desktop, drag it to the trash.

This may not be the answer but I suspect you've done something stupid <grin> because 10.6 has been very stable for me.

If updated through Software Update and having problems, go download the combo updater from Apple's site and update again. In the future, I'd directly use the combo updater instead of the delta updater/Software Update version.

Hi SatCure, thank you for your reply,

no, downloaded nothing at all. ... lndeed, l have probably done something wrong somewhere.

Hi also fryke, thank you for your input. The combo updater has been mentioned as a better way to update, so l might give it a try.

Cheers,

DJO

After you download the combo update, and install it etc. Repair the permissions, some will say this is overkill, I find it useful.

I agree. I repair permissions before and after installing anything. It may be like "throwing balls of paper out of the London train window to keep the elephants away" but - so far - no elephants! ;)
