Problems come together

Hi
I use a MacBook (10.5.8) for a few years and it had no problems until now. And suddenly quiet a few things pop up together: it does not recognize USB flashes (although other USB devices like modem work ok), the camera does not work anymore, and I am unable to open the 'System Preferences'. More than that, when I try to do a 'force quit' for them, it fails either.
Really have no idea what to do.
Thank you

You have all the symptoms of a failing hard drive.

Boot into Single-User Mode and run fsck -fy several times (if necessary) until the message says all is well with your hard drive.

If the problem continues consider getting a new hard drive.

To add to what Satcomer states, before you do anything, go to your Local Computer store, purchase an external hard drive and IMMEDIATELY save your data. Cloning is not so much an issue--making a bootable copy of your Internal HD so much as ALL of the photos, movies, document, music . . . the "stuff" that makes "you" you into it.

So, if your Internal HD fails, or whatever, you still have your data.
