Problems connecting to some pc's

In my school we have a wireless connection. It is really bad, every 10 minutes every pc is disconnected from the network. Everyone except me (appearently my mac reconnects automatically).
Anyway, I've experimented with connecting to some of the other computers. What baffles me is that roughly 1/2 of the compures will not reply. With the others it works fine, I can connect and I can see the shared folders, no problem. With the others it says "could not be opened because the original item could not be found". When i try connecting with smb:// it says error -50.
Sometimes I can connect, but when I write a user and password it tries to connect, and then replies "could not be opened because the original item could not be found."
With the teminal using the net lookup <computername>, I can find the IP of all the computers except one. The terminal writes "didn't find <username>#20". I belive that is bechause of the firewall he is using though...
I belive it has something to do with the setup of the pc's, but I dont know what is wrong.

We need more intormation. What are these PCs running? Windows 2000? XP?? 98??

It could be that depending in the version of Windows, most of those PCs might be using third party software for the wireless, and not all of it is top notch. or, they aren't configured properly to reconnect.

I've used a laptops running everything from 98 to XP with wireless, and they have all reconnected to the wifi network OK. Of course, these were Cisco Aironet cards, which have proven to work great for me. 98 and 2K were using Cisco's software for the wifi card, while XP was using its own wireless settings.

Again, it could just be a configuration issue on the PCs.

They are running XP, some of them are using professional and some are using home, they all have servicepack 2.
Most of them are using cordless netboards which they plug into their computer. I am uncertain whenether they are using windows default setting, or the software that came with the netboard.
I am also unable to connect to the printserver, but I can connect to most of the other servers (which I don't know what are for).
Im also having problems connecting to some of the stationary computers, and both them and the servers are connected to the network via the ethernet.
So I dont think the problem is with the wireless but more with the configuration of the pc's.

I am using OSX 10.3.2

If they are running SP2, it could be that the firewall is enabled on the PCs. This will prevent you from being able to access any resources from them.

Maybe once they disable that, everything will work.
