Problems installing OS9.2 on a G4

I am having a lot of trouble installing OS9.2 on a separate hard drive
on my G4. I want to do so because it seems Cubase 5.1 won't work under
classic and I want to keep using it.

I have tried different routes, from booting from the OS9.2 install
disc to reformat the relevant hard drive (it doesn't mount), to
formatting the hard drive OSX journaled with OS9.2 drivers also
installed. Doesn't work either.

I am obviously going wrong somewhere, so to cut to the chase, could
someone outline the procedure? My G4 has two hard drives and I have at
my disposal an iMac 0S9.2.2 install disc as well as an OS9.1 install
disc with the relevant update to 9.2.

So you're trying to use System Restore discs from different model other computers? You can't do that. System Restore discs are model-specific.

What exact model is the PowerMac G4? Only the oldest G4s can actually run Mac OS 9. Newer models can only use it in Classic. Generally: If it has FW800, it can't boot OS 9.
