problems installing software

Never having been that interested in PCs, I bought myself the new macbook in july because I was told that there would be less problems.

Up to now, I have been quite content but the problems started when I tried to install a panorama program that was offered with mw digital camera. It compatible with Mac OS X as it worked in the next Apple shop where I asked for help. At my mac, however, the doc just moves a bit as if the program was tried to be opened but nothing else happens. Even the guy in the store did not know what to do.

If it was just for this program I would not bother, but it was also the case with several other programs that had already once worked on my mac. On the other hand I could install Skype without any problem.

I don't know what to do. I have alreadw tried to start from the cd, but nothing changed. I have made a hardware test that did not find any problems.

It would be really nice if one of you could help me, poor newbie.

If some apps work and others don't, what is the difference between how they were installed? My bet is that your problematic apps were not actually installed on your hard drive. If they were inside a .dmg file, you have to drag the app inside the mounted virtual disk icon on the Desktop to your Applications folder.

skype had to be installed just by dragging the icon into the folder and it worked, whereas the others were .dmg files and I did drag the folder of the app into the application folder. With the panorama program it was again different because the installation should lance itself automatically, which it did not.
Maybe it could be connected to the fact that some programs are in fact packages and not just applications (i hope you understand what I mean)

MacOS X .pkg and .mpkg packages are installed by the standard MacOS X Installer utility. Double-clicking on them launches Installer.
