I have a Mac Powerbook 1.67GHz laptop (Pre-intel chip) and am having trouble reading a disk which contains files I burned from a PC...if I put the disk in the PC the information is there so I know the burn happened correctly; I just can't read/retrieve the info when I put the disk into my mac laptop; is it possible that my drive is incompatible with this format?

According to the specs outlined here, the included optical drive does not support dual-layer DVD discs. You'll need to use single-layer DVDs in order to use them on that PowerBook. You could also see about purchasing a compatible optical drive that does support dual-layer DVD discs, but that would require opening up the PowerBook.

A correction on what I said, this supplemental page from EveryMac seems to say that the 1.67 GHz PowerBook G4 does in fact support dual-layer. Best place to check is in the System Profiler (Apple Menu, select About This Mac, then click More Information) and then select the listing under Hardware for "Disc Burning".

Yep -- any DVD-ROM drive should be able to read a dual-layer DVD disk (that's what movie DVDs are -- dual-layer DVD disks) -- just not all DVD drives can write a dual-layer DVD disk.
