problems with an iPod bought on eBay

My friend just bought an iPod on eBay. He plugged it into his 17ich imac and immediately had it update, it was then that the computer lsowed down to a crawl, so much that it when he attempted to force quit nothing happened (so he said) so he unplugged it, while it was probably in the process of updating. after this i talked to him and said he should alsouse the software updater to restore the ipod before he starts dumping songs on it and uses it regularly, after he did this the iPod stopped working completely, it won't turn on, it won't mount on a computer, and won't respond when plugged into a wall outlet. Are there any possible options anyone sees here to fix this?... ps(hold is no on :D )

Please give us more information. Have you tried putting it in disk mode and formatting? What generation iPod is it?
 
sorry i never reported back, its fixed but...
now it will only load 3 songs then itunes freezes... its gen 3 15gb, on an 800mhz iMac with 256mb or of ram, and 7gb's or HD space, i haven't gotten a chance to restore it yet..
