I'm having problems using ARD to observe or control a Power Mac G5 running 10.4.11. My system runs 10.5.2. On the remote system I've done all the normal things such as make sure ARD is allowed for a specific user in Sharing and made sure the firewall has a whole poked in it for ARD also in Sharing. However, every time I go to observe or control that machine it times out with the message "Connection failed to solus". Solus or solus.local is the machine's name in sharing.
The problem likely stems from the previous user of that G5 who locked the machine down pretty tightly so remote access was very difficult. I'm not sure what he changed on it, but I'd like to set it up for ARD to work.
I did an admistrative report on that machine. LOM Authentication is not supported. Also, when I initially tried to set up ARD for that machine, I had to upgrade its client from 2.2 to 3.2.1, however, after chugging away for several minutes, it finally gave me the message that it was unable to do so but the ARD version on the G5 does indeed show 3.2.1.
Something tells me the machine is acting somewhat but not entirely in a stealth like mode, not responding to some requests. Of course, I want it to respond to my ARD requests.
So, what am I missing? What should be changed on the remote system for me to get ARD to work?
