Problems with Entourage

After working with Entourage for years without problems I am lately having difficulty sending PDF attachments with emails. Normally I drag a PDF image into the text window and a ENCODING notice appears. When it fails, no ENCODING notice appears. The error message that come up is 5572

I work around the problem by creating a tiny jpeg file and importing it in as an attachment. Then the ENCODING notice appears and the message goes out fine but this takes time and I want the good old days back when my email campaigns went out normally and speedily.

One more clue. A consultant set up an account on my computer and sent messages from HIS server. That seemed to solve the problem, but I don't want to change servers.

Any ideas, I have Tiger 10.4.7

Does the "failure" occur on your local machine or on your old server?

The fact that a consultant in involved indicates that your problem was creaed by a change in your firm's server. Is this true? When asking for help, you should state which changes were made in your environment when your system stopped working.

We can help with only those problems which you created or with buggy software. We cannot help with modifications to your firm's server made by your IT staff.

Hi

The failure occurs on my Mac Laptop when using Entourage to send emails.
My server is Verio. I called them and they could not help.

I had my Mac guy (consultant) come in to try to help. He worked with Verio Tech and also could not get an answer. We gave them all information possible. If you suggest that sending attachments on Entourage and getting failures definately could be a Server issue, I will persue that even further with them. I assumed it had to be an Entourage software problem.

Thanks for your input. Look forward to hearing from you

Janice,

You are leaving out so much information. The fact that you have the problem on a laptop adds a whole new wrinkle.

Do you have more than one computer?
Is the laptop the only one with the problem?
Does it have the problem at work or out of the office or both?

Perhaps, it would be useful to explain the nature of my questions. My firm, a Windows shop, has an Exchange server. I use Entourage 2004 to access it. The firm has installed a really stupid virus scanner. This scanner often has major problems with such virus-prone formats as PDF and RTF, which I try to send to my Windows-using colleagues.

My first guess is that you are being vexed by new security software on your firm's server. The fact that the problem is on your laptop reinforces this theory. This implies that you are trying to access your firm's outgoing mail (SMTP) server outside its intranet.

The takeaway message is that my theory is that your firm has implemented new measures against viruses or SPAM or both.
