Problems with Ichat

Wondered if someone could help, I'm running Tiger 10.4.3 and up until yesterday everything was fine.

I fired my Mac up today and Ichat wouldnt work. It opens then closes almost immediatley, I tried to re-copy the app from my OSX CD but still the same problem.

The last time I used IChat i had to add an AOL signon rather than using my .mac account.

I've tried everything I can think of including searching for ichat config files and removing them but nothing works.

Any Idea's???!
 
ichat has been flaky in my experience. Problems like this are sometimes fixed by repairing permissions and restarting. Repair permissions by opening Disk Utility (Application --> Utilities --> Disk Utility), Select your hard drive, & click on "Repair Permissions"

Maintenance Programs are also useful in solving problems like this. Cocktail seems to be a favorite of this forum, but I've also had good results with System Optimizer X.

Other times, you have to spotlight search (command+space) for ichat plist and throw away everything that comes up.

If this started right after adding an AIM account, I'd especially target com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist

If your computer came with an iLife disk, then you can use a program like Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to extract the ichat installer and run that.
