Problems with iTunes 9.1.1

For the past few days, I've been having problems loading iTunes. When I try to open it, my cursor turns into the spinning wheel and it will not let me click anything and I have to force quit.

I've already reinstalled iTunes, and deleted the com.apple.iTunes.plist file in my User Preferences. I run Mac OSX 10.6.3. Is there anything you can suggest?

Is there any message in the Console? Search for iTunes... Also check if any disk permission is damaged. I have just updated mine and currently I have no issues.

There's no message that pops up, I just get a spinning beach ball/wheel. When I try to force quit, it says "iTunes (not responding)". I checked and repaired my disk permissions, and it still hasn't fixed my problem.

Hello, on utilities there is the console utility to look for errors. That's where I want you to check for messages. Sometimes it will present you a valid information to resolve your problems. Check under Database Search | All Messages. Also under CrashReporter on the same utility.

Ok, I see messages for hang reports, crash reports, and messages showing that iTunes was forced to quit. Is there something specific I'm looking for? Sorry, I'm pretty clueless as far as this goes.

Yes, sorry! All of the iTunes related messages look similar to this:

5/3/10 3:10:02 PM SubmitDiagInfo[434] Submitted hang report: /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/iTunes_2010-05-02-184931_caitlin-hogans-macbook.hang

I found an article in Apple forums recommending after you remove iTunes to also delete the following files:
com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
com.apple.iTunes.helper.plist
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist

Then try to reinstall your iTunes... I will keep researching it to you.

Also, prior to re-install it, try to turn airport off and disconnect any other ethernet cable (summary be offline while installing and running it for the first time). I found other issues related to network and iTunes.

Ok, I deleted iTunes along with 3 of the files you mentioned. I didn't have com.apple.iTunes.helper.plist but had the others. I then turned off the Airport (with no ethernet) after downloading like you suggested, but when I moved my cursor to play music, it froze again. These are the messages on the console after I force quit iTunes:

Can you please Verify your disk integrity. In the same utility you ran for verifying the disk permissions, now check the disk integrity.
Additional questions:
1. So, you were able to re-install your iTunes - Ok!
2. After installing it, you had to add the musics back to your library, right?
3. What type of music files are you adding to your library? MP3, AAC, WAV, ...
4. Any of these musics came from Apple Store? If yes, can you also clean the iTunes Store Cache: Preferences | Advanced | Reset iTunes Store Cache

P.S. Does anyone else have any tip to share on this subject?

I used Disk Utility and verified the disk permissions and got the message, "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK." I did not see an option to verify the disk integrity.

After installing iTunes, I clicked to add music on my own, but when iTunes started up, all my music (MP3) was already in the library. I can't find a way to clear the iTunes Store Cache without going into iTunes, and once I move my cursor in iTunes, it freezes up and will not let me select anything.

I attached a screen shot of Disk Utility. Am I doing something wrong? I really appreciate all of your help and patience!

I'm currently at the office - away from my MAC. I will be back home in 10 hours only... But I will check one additional information, and will return my finding after that...

Hello,
Under your user/Music/iTunes there are three files from the iTunes Library, they keep the information regarding your library. Before you installing the iTunes, make sure you move or delete those files, so you can start a new library. Thats the last thing I can remember that can help you... Hope this time it works.

Please don't post another question for the same subject in the forum, it will only duplicate the subject and make the search for solutions harder...

Does anyone else have any suggestion to help Cait806?

I didn't post another question. I submitted that question to the techs on this site before I posted on here, because this problem was the whole reason I joined this site, to get help from mac experts. They sent me an email saying that they were unable to answer it in 7 days and that they had posted it on this forum. I'm sorry, I didn't want that. I tried searching this forum to ask that it be deleted, but couldn't find it.

Anyway, I've had my computer at my father's house, and he used a program on it...I think it was called "Tech Tool" but I'm not sure. He knows much more about computers than I do. But, I am still having problems. I'll try to keep looking, and if I can get this issue resolved, I'll be sure and post this so that maybe it can help others who have the same issue. Thanks for all your help LMeinhardt!

The moment you add a new thread to your main question, it will automatically make you question go back to the top of the forum... Probably this was their recommendation... Did you tried the last recommendation I gave?

I deleted 3 files: iTunes Library, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, and iTunes Library Genius.itdb, along with Previous iTunes Libraries, and all the music on my computer. And I did back everything up on an external hard drive before I deleted anything.

I then re-installed iTunes, and everything is working perfectly!! I'm so excited! Thank you so much for all of your help and time spent working with me to fix this!

For some reason those files got corrupted, and deleting them resolved the problems... I'm glad you are once again able to use your iTunes.

Enjoy your music... Yours truly,
