Problems With Keyboard

All of a sudden my keyboard stopped working the weird thing is the the mouse attached to it still works as do the function keys along the top. I have no clue what to do to fix it and my apple care has ran out

the computer is a dual 2 ghz g5 from around 2003-2004

things i have noticed and tried:
running tech tool
repairing permissions
switching usb ports
removing the mouse from the back of the keyboard
unplugging everything but the keyboard and mouse
tested the keyboard on my laptop and it works fine
when i try and open keyboard and mouse in system prefs it gives me the quit unexpectedly message

can and one help me ... thank you
 
Dunno if this will help, but take a look at com.apple.keyboardtype.plist file to see if it reads Crashed. If so, delete it.
 
If you search for keyboard you should find at least one such file in Library/Preferences and maybe an alternate in ~/Library/Prefences/ByHost.
