Programs not starting

When I click to start Disclabel, Skype, DVD player and Handbrake, either from the dock or the application folder they don't open. They bounce
and nothing happens. What can I do to correct this problem. I've re-installed all the above and still nothing.
 
Welcome new Mac user. The old tried and true application trouble shooting can be remedied by deleting the applications Preferences. Just Go to the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ and find the applications preference file and putting it into the trash.

Also you can always look at logs to see WHY the problem is happening. Just go to the folder /YourHardDrive/Applications/Utilities/ and launch the program Console. With Console you can look at many logs that you might get a clue at what is going on.

Now have you EVER completed ANY maintenance on that Mac (it would help what Mac you have running what version of OS X)? You should download a maintenance program like Yasu or Onyx and run the cleaning routines. Either of these cleaning programs should be use every month to keep you OS X running clean and fresh.
