iMovie won't let me import protected AAC files. I can put them in the audio track of the program, but when you play they are completely silent. Any ideas on what might be causing this? Thanks!

Don't know; it could be an intentional copyright protection feature

I did some digging on Apple's discussion boards and I have a feeling that I'm gonna have to get iMovie 4 to be able to use the AAC files. I'm still running iMovie 3 and it looks like it may have been made before the music store was introduced.
