Provider-free iPhone now available...

And it only works with German SIM cards. A swedish guy bought one to try to "do the right thing" instead of buying an american or british phone and jailbreaking it. So he pays double the money, and still needs to jailbreak it...

It's not even double the money, it's triple. 1 euro = $1,50 early...
So he pays $1500 for it, and still has to use the other tools to make it work for him.

no, it's cheaper than entering into a contract.

over here, the cheapest you can legitimately buy an iPhone for is about £899 (£269+£35/month for 18 months). €999 is £770.

Reading that it will be around 500 Euro (more, but clearly less than 1000 Eur) in France, makes the T-Mobile offer of a free iPhone still look like a total rip off.

I'm so happy that there's an iPhone without contract - because I have a Mobilcom Austria contract, and when the iPhone comes to Austria with T-Mobile (already announced officially), I wouldn't be able to buy it.
But 999 Euros for the unlocked version!!! Now I'm not so sure anymore... Well, I anyway had an eye on that new Nokia phone...
