Public folder connection issue

I have a MBP 15" unibody mid 2009. The OS originally being 10.5.8.

I have a class of 20 iMacs that my students use to transfer files over using my dropbox (through Public Folder). This was working really well until I updated to 10.6 and now 10.6.5. The other iMacs and other Macs will not connect to MBP. What is strange is I have a colleague who did exactly the same update / same process when updating but everybody can connect to his as before.

I have checked all the permissions of the Public Folder and Dropbox and they are Read/Write. File sharing is on. Attempts have been made switching the firewall on and off to check it's not that. I am sure I am missing the obvious can you please help. Thanks in advance for your time reading and considering this problem.
