Q: "Autofill" for non-shuffle iPods.

I own a 4G 60Gb iPod with color display. However, I was wondering if there are any ways to.

A: ) Have a playlist with content randomly selected (with the specifications seemingly available for iPod Shuffle users.

and / or

B: ) Have the entire iPod filled just as randomly as the iPod Shuffle.

Needless to say, I am really not interested in having the whole iPod turned into a Shuffle -I want things the way they are. But I'd love some randomly selected tracks, all in one --or any numer --of seperate playlists.

I've done this on my 1GB nano by making a few smart playlists such as:
- A fixed playlist of 100MB of songs I always want to keep on there
- 200MB of songs picked randomly from 5-star songs
- 150MB of songs picked randomly from songs I've never rated or played
- 600MB of songs just picked randomly.

I then place these playlists into a playlist folder called "My iPod Playlists", and make a new smart playlist called "iPod Playlist" (not in the folder) which selects exactly 900MB at random from the My iPod Playlists folder (leaving enough room for some photos)

Then, in iPod preferences I tell it to use that playlist, and voila.

To force a playlist to re-shuffle, I have to option-click the Shuffle button while I'm in that playlist. This is a little fiddly since I need to reshuffle 3 playlists before I sync my iPod, but at least it works.
