UC Gundam Freak
i know im kinda late to the whole quake 3 scene. i just bought the retail
version a few days ago and i love the visuals. i was wondering if anyone had
special tweaks for os x users to get the most fps, etc. right now im getting between 40-80 fps in the screen size next up from 800x600 in a window and
all features at high.

thanks in advance

This works very well for me (Blue & White 500MHz G3, 768MB RAM, ATi Rage 128 w/ 16MB RAM):

Graphics
GL Driver: Default
GL Extensions: On
Video Mode: 640 x 480
Color Depth: 16 bit
Full screen: On
Lighting: Lightmap
Geometric detail: High
Texture detail: medium (slider)
Texture quality: default
Texture Filter: Bilinear

Sound
Sound quality: high

Network
Network data rate: 56k

I have no idea what the frame rate is, but it's fast on my computer.

to get fps, go to console "~"

then hit enter "/cg_drawFPS "1"
in the upper right hand corner you should get
the fps in RT.

now im getting stuttering sounds when i play the game.. visually things
look unchanged. any idea whats up?

its kinda bugging the heck out of me.

TIA

Sorry, I don't know what would be causing the sound stuttering, aside from you not having the latest update. I experienced sound stuttering for a while until id updated the version, quite some time ago, like 2 years ago. The current Q3A version I use with Mac OS X is 1.30. Your system is plenty fast enough that it should not stutter. I think, not sure, that there was an issue with the G4 for a while. You can always go back to the system defaults.

thats the weird thing... for the first day i had installed it and it didnt stutter at all.
and the version is 1.31 (beta)... i didnt do anything different. i dont want to reinstall it but i think i might have to.

oh well.

If you're on a dual proc machine, use r_smp 1
also, s_chunksize 4096

increase your com_hunkmegs. 128 to 256 is good, depending on how much RAM you have. (default is 56, much too small for big mods/maps etc.)

See www.quake3world.com and look in the Mac Forums.

thanks for the tip...

i just resorted to default settings and the stuttering stopped.

i will check out that website..

TIA
