Quake III on OSX?? Help!

Hi,

I just bought the Quake III Gold pack (which is a hybrid pack for both Windows and MacOS), and would like to know how to get it to run natively in OSX, I have had no luck with it at all. The game on the cd comes down as version 1.30, and I have tried to update it to version 1.31, but the 1.31 installer keeps moaning about me not selecting the right directory to install into - I know I am installing to the correct directory, so the problem is not this.

Please help - anyone who has played Quake III Arena on OSX, I need your help!

what u need to do is to first install the 1.30 v which came on the
disc.

then get the latest version of 1.31. after u unstuff the file... i like to open the finder window to list view and open the subfolder /baseq3. u will see a file name pak2.pk3 i think its called. take this and drag
it to the folder which as your quake 3 arena installation in the
same subfolder which will replace the old file. then take
the quake 3 apps and put it in your quake folder replacing it.

thats it. u can now enjoy quake 3 in os x.

thanks very much dude, the documentation sure didn't make it very clear what to do with the files, in fact there was no docs at all with the patch, but it now works peachy.

Thanks very much for your prompt help, I'm a new Mac user and I'm impressed with the level of user support, especially at this site, so thanks again.

BTW - do you know how to get the console in the Mac version of Quake III?

i read how to do that install from some website which im
forgetting right now.

to get the console, is the same key as in PC. the ~ key.

I got myself the same edition of Q3, so I have two questions to you guys:

1. I'm before upgrade of Q to be able to play under X, so please tell me - is there big performance difference between X 10.2 and 9.2?

2. when do we frag each other? :cool:
 
1. i havent used 10.2 yet so im not sure on my machine. also,
i dont load up in 9.2 ever. when i first got q3, it would
load up in classic and there was a major difference. im not
sure about what it would be like in 9.2 instead of classic.

2. whenever u are up for it :)
i'm game!!!
