Quark 6 - Export as PDF Problem

JML

I'm Hungry
I have Quark for OS X and it's supposed to have everything needed to export as PDF. When I do so, I get the following message...

To save layout as a PDF, the current printer must be a LaserWriter version 7.0 or greater.

What's that all about? Thought PDF export was supposed to be integrated into the app. Any thoughts or suggestions? Quark's site has never been a help, and such a new product has very limited info other than press releases around the web.

Thanks

PS: I have an Epson color inkjet printer for home use.

Are you using the File > Print > Save as PDF
option?

Or are you using the File > Export > PDF (Adobe Portable Document File) method?

The File > Print > SAve as PDF shouldn't depend on what type of printer is installed, however, if that is the one you are using, try specifying "Any Printer."

Really curious as to the situtation of this. Please reply ;)

This happens using File > Export > PDF. I tried the print way, but that makes a PDF that doesn't work. You know that print window that only a Quark user can use? The one with 17 million options. Well, you can't select save as PDF like in other OS X apps. So, I clicked the printer button. Like the one in past Quark printer screens. Then you get to the normal OS looking print menu. Save as PDF is there, it makes a PDF, but that PDF is nothing. That menu is usually just a step to make non-Quark changes and when you press Print, it just brings you back to the Quark print screen. No Quark version has been printable from there. You just go back to Quark's. I don't think the problem's there, rather the Export option. But I will play around more tonight.

I've read here that someone said the Export to PDF function is great. So it's not a global problem. Just me, of course. Like most problems on computers, if you have it, odds are you're not alone. Been there done that, around the world. Just need to find the cure. When you are alone, well, you're alone. I'm hoping this being such a new product, I won't be alone for long. And eventually, I'll read something somewhere.

For now, I'm just doing things the most a$$ backwards way. Saving as EPS and distilling. Fine for one pagers. I guess I can save as v5 and open it there to export using Utilities > Export as PDF.

Otherwise, I'm liking QXP6. Just using it at home. Can't do any "real" work on it. Can only save as v5 or v6. So, if I needed a v4 file, it's no good. I can save as v4 in v5 though. Not very practical. Yet. But cool all the same.

IS there not a short cut where you can get the default printers menu?
Will page setup bring you there Ala Photoshop?

Got some help @ MacFixItForums. Really simple. Figures. I needed a PostScript Printer. Kind of knew that, but don't have one. There's actually an article at Apple's support pages on how to install a virtual printer. Very simple.

PDF Export works like a charm. Just have to change printers in Print Center when I need to export.

You can also change the printer in the print menu as usual. But don't save as PDF from there. Doesn't work. Not supposed to I would imagine. It's meant to be exported.
