Query: Speed of Panther on the TiBook?

Most of the reviews I see mentioned about speed increases in Panther refer to the multiprocessor G4's.

I've got a 550 mhz G4 TiBook with 512 mb of ram..

How much of an improvement have those of you with Tibooks seen?

Thanks

Haven't got a TiBook any longer, but my friend tested it on a 500 MHz G4 Ti. There's an all-around speed improvement that anyone will see on their machines. There's also specific enhancements that users of specific machines will see, however.

Afaik, your TiBook does not support QuartzExtreme that well, for example, with its 16 MB VRAM. You still might see improvements there.

OpenGL has been much improved, I hear. But of course for the really new games, the graphics card, again, may be too low-end by now...

Boot and shutdown times have improved, but those are not that important with the 'books, as you rarely need to restart your 'book, anyway (keep it sleepin').

The lack of VRAM really gets me down on a regular basis... wish I knew of something I could do to compensate for that.

There's really nothing you can do about it, sadly. That hit me with my old TiBook 500 when Jaguar came out... That's why I "sidegraded" to the iBook 800. Everything about the machine (the Ti) was fine, but the VRAM was an issue. And not upgradable, too. :/

Im running it on my Ti 876 256 ram, and its much faster than jaguar, however i require more ram realy to run it as i get some problems with the windows sometimes is there is a big workload on the processor. So with 512 that you have it will run just fine. im rinning 7B85. ;)
