Question about connecting to network volumes

Hi! Hopefully this will be an easy one to answer. :)

I'm configuring a Mac mini (PPC) running OS X 10.4.5 (Tiger) to connect to a G4 (I think) based server running OS X 10.3. I can go into Finder on the Mac mini and connect to the server and mount the volume I want and the icon for it appears on the Mac mini desktop. Cool.

The problem is I don't know how to automatically reconnect to the server and mount that volume at boot time so the Mac mini user won't have to worry about doing the manual connection. They have other Macs running OS 9.2 that do this already, I believe, but I can't find how to setup the Mac mini to do this.

What do I need to do?

First, connect to the server the way you have been doing so far.

Go into the Apple menu and choose "System preferences"

Then, go into "Accounts" and choose your account, and then go to the "Login items" page. This is a list of all the things you want to run automatically at logon.

Drag the icon for that network volume from your desktop into the list of login items. It will now be added to the list and will automatically connect every time you logon as that user.

Ok, I finally got around to doing this and it works just as described above. :)

Thanks again! Now, I've got another question. Now that the server volume is being reconnected at boot time, the folder opens when the machine boots and I would prefer having the desktop icon appear only. I checked the "Hide" option for the server volume in the "login items" area but that didn't make a difference.

Any ideas?
