Question about Intel-based Macs and EFI

Ok, in the very long BootCamp thread in the news and rumors forum, there is mention of BootCamp being required on Intel-based Macs since XP needs a BIOS to boot and can't use the EFI that the Macs use (apparently).

There was a comment made that BootCamp would permit Linux to run on an Intel-based Mac as well as XP.

I just did a Linux 2.6.16.2 kernel build and saw native support for EFI. If Linux supports EFI natively, shouldn't it be able to boot on an Intel-based Mac without BootCamp?

Thanks!

Peace...

Even more so since it's not BootCamp that adds legacy-support (BIOS in EFI) but rather the firmware update, I guess... BootCamp is only a partitioning tool plus Windows-drivers it puts on a CD-R.
