i have a new g4 powerbook, running 10.4.4. recently i've noticed that the hard drive seems to be running constantly, even when i haven't opened any programs or the computer is otherwise idle (the fan also seems to be kicking in a lot more often). i opened disk utility and noticed that every 5-10 seconds the systemuiserver process would start up for a few seconds and then close again. is this normal? is there some way of stopping this? (this may sound strange, but i actually find the noise of the hard drive distracting while i'm working.) i'm new to macs, so sorry if this is a naive question. thanks!
