Question marks on Microsoft Office icons in dock

For no apparent reason, the icons in the dock for MS Word and Excel have big question marks on them. What caused that? It is not possible to open the applications with those icons, but the applications still open if I go directly to them.

It means the dock cant find that app. drag the ?'s out of the dock and drag them back in.

This can happen if you move a program without telling the Dock what you did. Mac Hacker's advice will work.
