Quick time

Thought I'll post this in this thread...

On the main Downloads page on Apple.com, OS X 10.4.3 is listed, as is Quick Time 7.0.3 - but OS X 10.4.4 and Quick Time 7.0.4 will only show up when you actually do a search on the site...

Interesting thing is also that they posted a utility that lets you downgrade Quick Time 7.0.4 back to 7.0.1...

Anyone got an idea if there have been any issues with 7.0.4?

I only had a problem with iTunes 6.0.2 - whenever it is installed, Terminal or Disk Utility cannot repair Disk Permissions. Re-installing 6.0.1 took care of that problem. (And yes, I'd done all the OnyX, etc. stuff).

Every recent QuickTime update has serious issues. I personally had to downgrade back to 7.0.1 from 7.0.2. 7.0.3 is fine for me (but not for many). I have not installed 7.0.4 because I simply have no more confidence in Apple's updates. My advice on this is simply "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...unless you're prepared to spend the time necessary to downgrade if something goes wrong.

As always, check out MacFixIt to get an idea of the problems people are having. Specifially, this article has some info on QT 7.0.4.

Then again, we _know_ QT 7 up to 7.0.3 are "broken" in that there _are_ security issues. The motto of not fixing anything until it's broken doesn't apply here.

I wasn't aware of that. The 7.0.4 update info doesn't mention security at all, but a search on Apple's support site brought up the security info. You'd think Apple would mention that in their Software Update blurb!
