Quickbooks won't open qbx statements

Hi. I have Quickbooks Pro 2007 for Mac and I am not able to open Amex statements that I have downloaded in qbo format. I get a message that says "Quickbooks cannot open files in the 'Quickbooks Web Connect File' format."

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,
Jennifer

This is a know problem/FEATURE of Quickbooks 2007 for Mac. Intuit has opted to have unique formatting of the QBO for Mac that is different from the standard Windows version. Only sites that specifically list QuickBooks for Mac as a download option, create the correct file format for the Mac.

I created a quick apple script to reformat the QBO file from the Windows version to the Mac version. It works for most banks. Give it a try. It is saved as an APP but if you want to see the code, just open it in the Script editor.

NOTE: This fix does not work for Quickbooks 2009 for Mac.

Good Luck

Hi Gary,

I read your post and downloaded your script. I am particularly interested in the unique formatting you mention in the QBO files for Quickbooks Mac.

Can you send examples or direct me to where I can find out what tags/fields are different between the Mac and PC QBO formats?

I was running QB 2007 Mac and it loaded the QBO files from my Canadian bank no trouble. I recently HAD to upgrade to QB 2009 Mac and it will not load the exact same QBO files from my bank - which leads me to believe it is expecting a QBO file with different tags/fields etc.

You mention in the RTF file with your script that you parse through and add the proper end tags for the problem transactions.

What are the tags and what are the problem transactions?

I'm thinking that if I can identify the tags and transactions I can manually edit my QBO files (or set up a script) so they will work with QB 2009 Mac.

What do you think?

Thanks for your help
Cheers
William
