Quicksilver start-up issues

My Quicksilver, it's an oldie but it's been a goodie until today. Worked fine in the morning, shut it down, and then would not boot in the afternoon.

Machine: 800 MHz, 512M RAM, 10.4.11

What it's done: All kinds of stuff....

I've gotten gray screen w/apple, stops.

Gray screen with normal "start-up twirl," stops.

Sometimes gray screen w/apple, long pause, and then a square or circle (can't remember which) with a slash across it, stops

To the blue screen, progress bar goes to the end, stops.

Gray screen w/apple, then screen goes a shade darker, and dialogue on left. Says type in "boot-up," I do, sometimes it boots!

Sometimes it boots completely normally!!! Sometimes this takes 3-4 restarts.

What I've done:

Disconnected AirPort.

Removed a SCSI card which operated two back-up hard drives

Disconnected DVD burner/player

Removed, and reinserted RAM

Tried starting up with one of the storage hard drives (which is bootable)

When operating, used Activity Monitor which seems to indicate only one of the dual cores is operating (is that even possible??)

Run Disk Utility, no problems

Zapped PRAM

.......

The QS has the original RAM card. Some of these symptoms seem to be what to expect with a faltering RAM card.

Anybody have any ideas??

Well, I restarted right after I posted, and ....

Got the gray screen, with a square with the circle with a slash....

Restarted, got the screen telling me to restart with the restart button....

Got the normal gray screen, that then went dark and told me I had a stack failure....

Restarted, got a normal start-up screen, but it didn't go to the blue screen....

Restarted, and here I am now!!!

Bad RAM, or what's your idea?
