Quicktime And Imovie Crash When Trying to Export

Quicktime crashes when trying to export. imovie does the same when i click 'share' and 'advanced settings' on the quicktime tab. i already deleted preference files and re-installed quicktime. this does not solve the problem. any suggestions?
