QuickTime Gripes/How to uninstall?

Hi Everyone,

I've got 2 G4 Towers, both with Jaguar and QuickTime 6.4. When I stream a movie on our local network, one tower can view it fine in a matter of seconds. However, the other tower says "A component needed by this movie could not be found" and refuses to play. Both installations are exactly the same and share the exact same settings.

I'm not a QuickTime expert, merely a user, but I thought we might have a bodgy installation, so I attempted to re-install QT... unfortunately it still seems to be exactly the same, as if it hadn't been re-installed at all.

How do I go about un-installing QT completely off a Jaguar installation? Do any of you think it would solve my problem?

Cheers,

Before trying to uninstall QuickTime, which I don't think is possible anyway, try creating a new user, logging in as that new user, and then trying to view the video.

It could be a preference or something somewhere under the user that's experiencing the problem that's giving you that error message.

Also, before creating that new user and trying that route, go into the System Preferences, select QuickTime, click the Update tab, select the "Install new 3rd-party QuickTime software" and hit "Update Now..."

The window that pops up may tell you that no additional software is available, but go ahead and click the "Custom" button at the bottom. Check on all the boxes for all the components such as "Microcosm" and "FBX 3D Component" and then hit "Update Now" at the bottom of that window. QuickTime should download and install all those components, one of which may be required to view the streaming movie in question.
