Quicktime, IPhoto Quitting In OS 10.2.8

Good morning...i just installed os 10.2.8 on a 450 mhz imac (384 mb ram, 20 gb hard drive, showing 10 gb free). everything is running smoothly, except that both quicktime and iphoto 4 will not run - both get the "unexpectedly quit" message seconds after starting up.

i've tried a whole bunch of things -- resetting preferences, permissions, repairing hard drive, throwing out selected iphoto thumbs as suggested on the apple support site - and still nothing works.

i'm at the end of my rope here - anybody have any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

i've pasted in both both the quicktime and iphoto crash logs below.

thanks so much for your help,

brian

here is the iphoto crash log:

Try using a program called Pacifist to install iPhoto and Quicktime back off of the OS X CD.

It can be found here: http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/6812

Insert your OSX CD.
Start Pacifist
Click "Open OS X Install Packages" (or something like that)
Wait....
and then browse through BaseSystem > Essentials > Applications (I think)

And click iPhoto and find "Install" click that
Do the same with Quicktime

Hmm...now I'm confused. I installed IPhoto from the ILife 04 install disc, not the OS install disk. Then I updated both IPhoto and Quicktime from the downloadable updates on the Apple website. Should I try reinstalling the two applications from the ILife disc?

Thanks again for the help,

Brian

Ah yes, I forgot that iPhoto is a part of iLife. Ok
Steps to get Quicktime back:
1.) Insert OS X CD
2.) Download and run Pacifist
3.) Click "Open Mac OS X Install Packages"
wait....
4.) Expand "Contents of EssentialSystemSoftware.mpkg"
5.) Expand "Contents of Essentials.mpkg"
6.) Right-click (or Control-Click) on "Quicktime Player.app" and select "Install to default location"

Yea. If I could find my iLife CD I'd type steps; because my iPhoto is messing up too since I did a Archive & Install of OS X.

Well, reinstall did the trick, and seemed to take care of a few other random crashes taht were occurring other programs too. Thanks for the advice - in retrospect, I don't know why I didn't think of this to begin with....

Brian
