Quicktime Pro 7.0.3

I recently updated my mac to 10.4.3, unfortunatley, since then, I have been experiencing a reaccuring problem w/ quicktime 7. Each and everytime I download a mpeg file and try to play it, quicktime reveals that it is not a file it understands (-2048). How can this be? Before updating to Tiger, all mpgs played fine under 10.3.9, QT v6.5.1. and all mpegs previously downloaded before updating play fine, however, any new downloads are rejected. After researching forums and websites. It came down to upgrading quicktime 7 to (Pro) and downloading the mpeg-2 playback. To my dismay, after shelling out $50 I am still unable to get the same satisfaction I got from my system before upgrading. Where do I go from here?

Thanks for the suggestion matt, however, in addition to everything initially stated in my last post, I also previously downloaded the VLC player and an MPEG streamclip 1.5.1 player in hopes that my problem would be solved, but no dice. I believe I've tried everything that has worked for others in other forums. I'm considering going back to Panther b/c since updating to Tiger my experience with quicktime has been very disappointing! With the VLC Player (when I drag the mpeg file to the player and click play nothing happens, but when I drag an old mpeg file, it plays. Moreover, with Streamclip 1.5.1 (File open error: can't find video or audio tracks).

I have had absolutely no problems with Quicktime Pro 7.03 and mpegs. However, there is one type of mpeg file I am unable to stream in QTP: That is, an mpeg encoded under Microsoft Windows.

I assume that it is a codec issue, and will be cleared up if I can remember which codec it was that it was incoded by, and I find the same codec for Tiger.

Hope this helps a little.
