Wait a minute here i have a radeon 8500 that i flashed to mac. When i check in the ati control panel for the 8500 it says vram size 32mb?????? Wtf im supposto have 64mb? What going on here.

I took the card out to make sure it is a 8500 and it is everything is ok on the card what could be going wrong?

ive heard of this problem, someone needs to find a test to test how much ram the card uses... i have a feeling it will use the 64mb just atis drivers are preset to say 32mb... but i dunno O_O

i want to do this sometime as well, im just scared to hehe

You shouldnt be scared it was very easy. Trust me a 13 year old can even do it. About the system profiler i dont see where it would show my graphic card info?

Well in my apple system profiler (jag)

under devices it says PCI > Slot -1 (AGP)

click the arrow, it displays info, the last line of the info about the card says: Card (Video) Memory: 32mb

wonder how much the 9700 is gonna cost...

Ok when i had the problem of only 32mb showing up that was for os 9 and X but now i deleted everything and started fresh with 10.1.5 and 9.2 hopeing that is whould show up as 64mb. Under os 9 i did get 64mb under the system profiler check but under X since it the apple system profiler it dont show up i checked using the display app that came with my 8500 card and it shows up as 32mb. Ok under os 9 i get 64 but under os X get 32 wtf? I hope its the app that miss reades the card or something. SO to everone with 8500 do you have this problem.

Well i dont have jaguar yet and i am expecting to recieve a game i bought on ebay soon. I did test the card out with itunes. Using my old card i checked the frame rate then compared it with the new one but they both have the same rate?

i flashed my radeon 8500 PC 128 MB DDR today and in the system profiler it says 128 MB ram.

did you contact ATI?

macer, in itunes, have the visuals playing not in full screen mode, but in the itunes window, then in upper right hand corner of itunes there should be a button instead of burn cd that says options, click on that and uncheck the option for cap at 30 frames per second

crash, what radeon did you buy, where did you buy it from, what instructions did you follow?

ive heard that the 128mb versions dont see all 128m ram in the end but only 64, i would be very interested in what you did etc

thanks :)

i purchased the ati radeon 8500 128 MB DDR through ebay. it's the PC version, and i followed wlescals advice on flashing ati radeon cards using their standard drivers and roms that can be downloaded from ati.com

to find his post, search for "flashed ati cards"

his directions are a few posts into the thread.

would you like a screen grab from system profiler?

good luck.

the thing is i need to know specifically what card it is... whats the mhz ratings, what model of the 128mb cards is it?

but i'll look into it

Crash, so you purchased a retail 128M Radeon 8500 and flashed it and it worked? DVD's, colors, acceleration, etc all show up fine? I've seen lots of people who tried to flash 128M ones and had color issues when it was accelerated. I wonder if it's only people trying to flash the 128M 8500LE that have the issue. I might have to pick up one and try it.

So you got the 8500 128mb not the 8500LE 128mb right?

the mhz ratings i thought needed to be a certain rating for the drivers, but i dont know...

ive noticed the 8500le 128 can be had for 105 or so and the 8500 128 is around 150... i wonder what the big difference is between the two

and if there would be much difference between 128mb vram and 64mb vram
