Rage 128 patch or update?

I searched for this topic & didn't find it. Sorry if it exists, just post a link.

Anyway.

I've got a G4 from like 1999. Original ATI Rage 128 Pro video card in it. Since I updated to OSX (Panther), the dvd players freeze after like 2-5 seconds. I replaced the dvd rom with a dvd burner. still freezes. I bought a new video card, only to find out that the new ones are AGP 4x or 8x, whereas my motherboard has an AGP 2x slot. Ugh. so the guy at ATI told me Apple made a "patch" to solve this problem between the card & OSX.

I can't find any such patch on the apple site. Does anyone know of it? I found a few updates for the Rage 128 card, but they were all for OS 9 or older...

Does such a patch exist?

Or should I just drop $120 on the new ATI Radeon 9200 PCI card. And if I do, do i remove the old RAge 128 AGP card? Or keep it in there, since the only real problem is with dvds? (Actually, it sometimes freezes during graphics work- Illustrator especially.)

Thanks for any help!
Chris
