RAM - all that and a bag of potato chips?

Heyo,
I have a Powerbook G4 550 MHz with 256 MB of RAM. It's a great computer and overall I've been pretty happy with it. My question is: How much of a difference would extra RAM really make? I've been thinking about springing for another 512 MB module, but they are obviously pretty expensive (for me, anyways). I like to use iMovie, in particular, and was wondering if the extra RAM would really increase performance in that program?

Apple did a pretty lousy job porting iMovie to OS X, it's performance stutters even under the latest G4's. Buying RAM just to fix iMovie's lack of speed would not really help much. However, OS X is a RAM hog, and you will certainly see increased performance with nearly everything else.
