RAM disk with .dmg files?

rharder

Do not read this sign.
I've not yet found a way to make a RAM disk with Mac OS X, but I wondered if anyone was familiar enough with the .dmg format to know if they can be used as RAM disks.

Are their contents pre-loaded into RAM?

Are reads and writes to .dmg-mounted volumes RAM-accessed only until the volume is ejected?

With more fiddling I've not been able to satisfy the question of whether or not a mounted .dmg disk can be used as a RAM disk.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

I am not sure but have you written the makers of DMGMaker? I will email them myself and keep you posted.

I emailed the DMG Maker creater (great tool, everyone. get it), and he didn't seem to think that mounted DMG disks were backed entirely by RAM, but I don't think he was sure about it, and I'm still not convinced one way or the other.

It seems like such an easy way to get a pseudo-RAM disk, that is, if DiskCopy does indeed keep the image contents in RAM.
