Due to the way the Unix/BSD underpinnings of OS X works, there is no way to create a ram disk. It may be possible a long way down the road, but I don't see it happening any time within the next 2 or 3 years.
Never say never. There was a simple shareware application for 9 called AppDisk. It had the OS mount its memory space as if it were a disk image. It had no effect in Classic-Mode :-(
I understand OSX could simply page a RAM disk to the HD making it relatively pointless. There are ways to flag memory blocks as non-pageable. Not certain how :-( I was bored on an air flight reading the memory management docs in the development tools - a long time ago.
I believe it is very possible. Create the appropriate virtual device and manage the memory correctly so as not to become useless.
Before you start a new thread, do a search to see if it s already here! please! you will cut down on unnecessary traffic on this board. it s just common sense.
this has been discussed before on this board. here is the link. this thread discusses the question of RAM disk intelligently, and includes a link to another message board which includes a discussion by a real life OSX developer at apple on the matter.
