RAM utilization on dual quad core Mac Pro

I'm working on mac pro dual quad core (nehalem)
with 24 GB ram. It seems to be the case that the
ram is "partitioned" evenly between the cores,
24/8 = 3 GB per core,
at least when I run a program, if the RAM usage
for the process reaches 3 GB, I get an out of memory
error. Is there a way to utilize the full 24 GB RAM?

Strange... is it using 32-bit libraries or 64-bit libraries?

What version of Mac OS X are you using? If you're using Snow Leopard, you may want to try booting into a 64-bit kernel (hold '6' and '4' while the computer boots) and see if you get different results (although they shouldn't be any different).

I'm working on one right now that won't utilize over 2GB because of a bad riser card. I'd run one card inserted at a time to see if it consistently errors out with one of the cards.
