I cut my teeth on video editing using iMovie. Recently I took on a home project where I thought I would need more muscle. Old 8mm movies that where transfered to video and look pretty bad. I was sold on Final Cut Express because of all the filters. And I was able to really improve the video with FCE.
Making titles was very difficult so I made them in iMovie and exported them to FCE.
Importing audio from iTunes did not work. Turns out FCE does not like mp3 according to Apple Store helpers. So then I got the original CD's and imported using the AIFF format. Video sounded 100% better but now I have dropped frames. Getting to close to Christmas. I dropped all the titles and exported the improved video to iMovie. I now have DVD for my family for christmass.
