sweet! is it based off of the old PC game by Apogee? it looks awesome. can't wait to see a playable demo!

It is based off an old DOS game me and my friend used to play. We were only around 8 back then (I'm 16 now) so I never really paid attention to the company that made it. Its really not too similar to the old game other though, other than its name and genre.

As for whats been fixed since the beta (hardly even a beta really)..a lot. I've fixed the quit bug you were having. Or at least I should have, I've never experienced the bug myself. I've also added in save games (they auto save when you beat levels) and lives so the game is a bit more forgiving when you die. I had to scratch the network option because it would have required me to completely rewrite the code. I also fixed the text (I had to create my own font and text engine, yikes!), which due to some OpenGL related stuff looked funky. Now it looks great. There was also some weird glitch where the bombers would use a small triangle as their graphic instead of the right one. I fixed that as well. I also fixed the bug where enemies are spawned where they shouldn't be. I could go on forever about stuff I've fixed.

Also I've added a lot of stuff. More levels, more enemies, a new interface which I think looks pretty good, high scores, save games, better particle effects, better terrian, many music tracks by my good friend, and more. I'm just saying all the stuff I can think of off the top of my head here.

Overall the final game will have a much more polished feel to it.

I've tried it. Very nice first shoot. needs a lot f work to gain in variations (different behaviours on different grounds - yes, even a fighter may behave differently over earth or above water, more weapons), otherwise it will be boring.

sounds great, if you give me the URL I'll take a good hour to test it...and a few hours after that to beat boredom

Since the game is 10MB (around), it'd probably be best if you just waited till it came out in a few weeks. Its at the point where all the technical details like interface, how scores, saves, and what not are covered and we can now focus on adding gameplay. We're going to be adding some really neat stuff. You should probably wait.

The game you are referring to is "Raptor - Call of the Shadows" by Apogee, yes. It was pretty cool and well remembered so it would be worthwhile considering a different title for your project.

I look forward to taking it for a spin. I would suggest releasing it with a "Beta" or other tentative tag that way if it isn't perfect people won't hassle you about it.

Yeah, I named it that never actually meaning to release it to the public. It started off just as a program to test out my new compiler (TNT Basic, very cool) and my skills. Then it grew into what it is now. Luckily I saved all the photoshop files so all I'd have to do to change the name is retype the word "raptor" as something else :D

I'm also in agreement about the beta thing. A good way to stay away from critizism is to keep something beta almost permanently
