Re-Installing Classic ?

Hi All,

I recently wiped and re-installed OSX Panther because of a balls up on my behalf. I just downloaded Duke Nukem (:P) and I want to get it working (had it before I formatted) but it says I need a version of OS 9 on the PC.

I thought it would install that by default, no ?

I think there was a third OS disc that came with my iBook, is it on there ?

Depends, how old is your iBook?

If it's old enough, the OS 9 system will be on the Software Restore CD, but the newer iBooks didn't come with the OS 9 software.
 
It did? Hmm. I thought that when Apple started shipping computers that didn't boot into OS 9, they stopped shipping any form of OS 9, even for Classic. I thought you were supposed to already have it, but maybe I'm getting mixed up with the different versions of OS X
 
All Macs since Apple first started shipping systems that booted Mac OS 9 have come with Mac OS 9 (even if they can't boot into it any more). Apple currently supplies Mac OS 9 with all hardware. If you are buying Mac OS X, you are expected to already have Mac OS 9 either from a purchase of Mac OS 9 in 1999-2001 or via a hardware purchase since 1999.

All current models come with Mac OS 9 for use in Classic.

As mentioned, your best bet is to see if it is on your System Restore Disc.
 
Ahh OK, I think I bought it in February, its an 12" iBook G4.

I'll take a look at the restore disc tonight, but Im currently trying to install Longhorn 4074 under virtual pc 6 and its going to melt it I think :confused:

Urg, poor guy. Why would you want to do that?! :confused:
Anyway, my iBook's system restore CD actually says on the front that it has OS 9 on it.
