Was having trouble with itunes and thought to uninstall the application. (probably not wise, but there you go) Followed meticulous instructions from a post from Skagg (August 2005). Having downloaded the application again (itunes 6.0.4) I am informed as I proceed through the installation process that there is nothing to install. Strange.I have removed all files relating to itunes and expected to be able to start again. All itunes mp3 logos have disappeared from the mp3s to be replace with blank white icons. This would suggest itunes has been erased. Am I missing something here?

Did you remove the iTunes .pkg files from /Library/Receipts? The installer program uses those to determine what programs are installed already, so if the old iTunes package is still there, it will think there's nothing to install.
Be careful about removing files from that folder, though, as if you get carried away, you'll find yourself unable to repair permissions, among other problems.
