My Mail 2.0 developed the dreaded "Dead Reply Button" problem, along with being unable to type in any new message beyond the third letter before hearing error sounds.
Have had the problem for five days and came across your previsou exchange under the heading in the subject line. Just wanted to thank you for your work on this. Had tried many of those steps, too, but there were some good ideas. In my case, the solution came through downloading Main menu from http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25902 and running it to Clean the Cache for User and then for Clean Cache System (deep).
Looks like a bug in Mail to me. But if not, in terms of looking for reasons, in my case the most recent things I had done with my computer were:
1. to use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable system backup on an external Firewire Drive.
2. I have been using iListen for about a month now, and tried their option of "Correct with Copy/Paste " in a Mail document.
Any commonalities with anyone else?
